Classic Album Reissue Artwork

Selection of CD packaging I produced for Esoteric Recordings for re-issues as of classic albums

I was supplied with the original Vinyl sleeves and had to design and produce new versions in CD format including a 16 page booklet. Each CD had to follow closely the loom and feel of the original artwork.

Visuals

Where ideas take shape, either with traditional marker pens or digitally on the tablet.

​The first visual was produced on an ipad using Penultimate. It was then used as a template to work-up the finished illustration using Adobe illustrator. It is available for sale at istockphoto.com, where I am contributor "mhj" , the file number  is 20169890.

The second visual was an initial layout design for a commissioned illustration for an American magazine.

The third is the original visual supplied to a door entry system manufacturer, the design was approved and the finished mailer is shown.

Breaking Glass DVD Packaging

​The design of a Collector's edition packaging for the DVD of the film 'Breaking Glass".

The pack consisted of a sleeve, 4 postcards, a 20 page facsimile of an original press pack booklet and a 28 page viewing notes booklet. ​

​There was a lot of imagery and elements supplied, however these varied in size a great deal and some were grayscale.

In order to get a cohesive look for the booklet,  I came up with the idea of creating the spreads with a heavy  halftone effect in flat bright colours and then used small colour images as accents. This made the spread design reminiscent of a cross between a Seventies fanzine and "Lookin" Magazine. Not only did this solve the problem of the variations of content quality, it also really helped reinforce the theme of the film which is a musical telling the story of a female singer in the late seventies.

Sanguine Hum Now We Have Light Packaging

I came up with the look, design and layout for a recent music release on behalf of Cherry Red Records.

I was commissioned to create 16 bespoke illustrations to bring the visual world of this concept album to life.

I also designed and created the artwork for the release, consisting of a booklet, DVD digipack and slip case. I also supplied merchandising which included posters and T shirts,

Live in America Packaging

I designed the artwork for the CD and DVD release for the Band Sanguine Hum on behalf of Esoteric Recordings. The pack included a 2 Disc digipack, booklet and discs.

Set of Eight Illustrations for a Finance Company

A series of eight illustrations commissioned for the Corporate Brochure of a Finance company. Each illustration had to show the various sectors that they dealt with.

For each sector I was given a set of keywords that I had to refer to create the concepts and visuals. Each illustration had to work as a stand alone visual as well as amongst the set.

The illustrations had to be clean, modern and visually exciting, whilst using a muted colour palette and maintaining a corporate feel.

Renown Pictures Website

I designed the layout, provided background illustrations and oversaw the small team that put together this e-commerce website for the classic film DVD distributor Renown Pictures.

The design has a vintage,  retro feel  and also emphasises the different genres of films that they supply.

Logos and Branding

Update of the Publicity Overload logo and branding.

The logo needed updating to reflect the digital design solutions that the company now offered.

The old logo looked dated (especially the copperplate typeface).
Proportionally the icon was too big - in order to fit in the “P” the company name text would become quite small. it was unbalanced, the downstroke of the “P” was wider than the line of the curve. The logo also looked quite staid.​

The logo colours were changed to grey and orange, the typeface to a clean sans serif. The text and “P” symbol were rebalanced.
The downstroke was removed from the “P” symbol and it was rotated slightly. This meant that whilst it still suggested P and O, it also reflected positive images such as a person with their arms raised or a target. The symbol could also stand on its own if space was limited.​

Harrow Health Trainers Logo

Designed for Harrow PCT. It was for a healthy lifestyle programe and had to be clean, fresh and fun.​

Aaren Environtech Logo.

This was for a company that provided monitoring solutions for the Food and Pharmaceutical Industries.​

Simple logo designed for a local building company.
